Hertz Car Rental Company has been here in Hungary since 1978 when it used to have the agreement with a state-owned company then. Mercur Rent a Car Ltd with German majority ownership started in April 1995 as the franchise partner of Hertz in Hungary. Due to its quality service and efficiency index in1995 the Mercur Rent a Car Ltd was awarded the "Franchise of the year 95" prize among the Eastern and Central European and the Middle Eastern countries. After 6000 DEM had been invested in it, in 2001 it had a fleet of almost 500 vehicles. Today this figure has grown to between 700 and 900 vehicles.

The first customer service was opened under strict rules in Hotel Marriott, and since then it has been functioning as downtown office that rents out vehicles for companies. By 2003 the network in Hungary has sixteen offices to receive clients, providing services to 3 inland airports. The modern well-equipped headquarter is located at 2 Hertz street, Vecsés. Mercur is the member of a global information supplier system to enable its clients to get in touch with Hertz wherever they are.

Like everywhere in the world, in Hungary the Hertz car rental distribution system priority is at the airport. As the winner of a concessional tender, it has been present at both 2A and 2B terminals of the airport since 1998. Ferihegy terminal 1 can be used again as well after having been renovated. In addition to the demands in the tourist industry in the high season, we are continuously focusing on satisfying the needs of our domestic market here in Hungary. As a result of this, more and more clients from the country come here to use our services. Hertz has many partners such as hotels, travel agencies, airlines to make sure the client can have access to his chosen vehicle the most convenient and quickest way possible.

The high standard of the Hertz system defined top quality service requirements for the members of this system. To swerve from this principle even at a small degree is completely out of question since the clients who buy our services from different part of the world have the same demand. Cars in Hungary can not be older than one year old since our fleet is replaced every six months. The parent company prescribes the uniform of the staff to wear and the face of the office it should have and the quality of the fleet it keeps as well.

Oklahoma City in the US is the home of the special computer controlled system which connects all the Hertz offices in the world. The Hertz headquarter reservation center receives more than 40million phone call and it registers 30 million reservation a year.
